The nationwide Molten 3-on-3 Shooting
Stars Tournament is contested over a number of rounds within the
constituencies of BBL clubs, before culminating in the National
Final at the National Indoor Arena.
The programme incorporates separate competitions for boys and girls,
and begins in the regions with a block of coaching being delivered
to year 7 and 8 pupils in seven secondary schools. The coaching is
intended to provide the players with the skills that they will
require in order to be successful in the subsequent 3-on-3
competition.
For both the boys' and girls' tournaments, a regional 3-on-3
champion will be crowned, and those teams will progress to the
National Finals.
The programme intends to improve the fundamental basketball skills
of the young people and involve them in competition in a fun and
friendly environment, whilst re-enforcing the importance of
participation in sport as part of a healthy lifestyle.
Meanwhile, Club - School Sport Partnership links are established, in
pursuit of England Basketball's targets; and further participation
in basketball is encouraged as players are pointed in the direction
of existing England Basketball registered junior clubs.
Stage One - Coaching
Players will be prepared for the competition by receiving coaching
sessions at their school from the Raiders. Each school will receive
coaching (for both boys & girls), incorporating coaching sessions
and in-school tournament. During these sessions, their fundamental
skills will be enhanced with particular focus on the basics such as
passing, shooting, and dribbling, within the context of a team
sport.
The schools selected for the programme are Ridgeway School,
Eggbuckland Community College, Devonport High School for Boys,
Plymstock School, Ivybridge Community College, Plymouth College and
Sir John Hunt Community College.
Stage Two - In-school tournaments
Separate 3-on-3 tournaments for boys and girls will be staged within
each of the seven schools to determine the teams that will represent
that school in the later rounds of the competition.
Stage Three - Regional final
The winning boys' and girls' teams from each of the seven schools
will progress to the regional semi-finals and final, which will be
staged before the Raiders vs Worthing Thunder on Saturday March
21st.

Stage Four -
National final
The winning boys' and girls' teams from each region earns the right
to represent their BBL club in the national final, which will be
staged at the National Indoor Arena prior to the BBL Finals Weekend
on Saturday 2 May 2009
